Fish benefits kittens

Cats can eat a lot of foods that humans can including fish. While it's not safe to give your cat lots of human foods without consulting your veterinarian, most veterinarians will agree that fish is a good option for cats at almost every stage of life.

Fish supplies cats with essential amino acids that they need to survive. Fish helps to build up their joints and ensure that your cat's brain is working properly.

Oily fish is especially good for your cat. Consider feeding them fish such as mackerel and tuna.

How distilled water helps your pet

Your veterinarian may sometimes recommend that you give your dog distilled water. This will sometimes happen in cases where your dog has a chronic condition such as congestive heart failure.

Dogs, cats and other pets with chronic conditions like these usually benefit from changes in their diet. Your veterinarian will recommend specific changes in their intake of salt, potassium, phosphorus and other nutrients if they have congestive heart failure.

Dogs with congestive heart failure tend to retain water, sodium and chloride. Diuretics are often given to dogs with congestive heart failure in order to remove fluid build up around the heart. This alleviates pressure on the heart.

However, if your dog is drinking water that contributes to higher levels of sodium and chloride your veterinarian may recommend that you switch to distilled water. Giving your dog drinking water that's low in sodium should be done along with putting your dog on a diet that is low in salt  (sodium chloride).

Muscle support for senior dogs

There are several reasons why people might want to obtain muscle support for dogs. This may be necessary for dogs as they grow older and a contributing factor to muscle deterioration is that they tend to exercise less than a puppy would.

Dogs that work in specific fields also need to stay in peak condition. For example, dogs in the police force or private security companies need to always be ready for potentially strenuous physical activities.

It's important for you to supply your dogs with sufficient amounts of protein each day. Their veterinarian can recommend the quantity that's appropriate for their breed, age and working conditions.

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants also help to support healthy muscle tissue. Some supplements also contain plant-based sources of protein such as kelp which are rich in amino acids.

Digoxin interacts with Hawthorne

Hawthorn should not be given to dogs that are currently taking digoxin. Digoxin is sometimes prescribed to dogs that have congestive heart failure.

While hawthorn can be helpful in cases where a dog has mild to moderate congestive heart failure it should not be used if a dog is currently taking digoxin. Hawthorne interacts with digoxin, so it increases the availability of digoxin in your dog's blood. This can lead to digoxin toxicity.

How do cats get energy?

Cats require essential nutrients if they're to live a healthy life. Your cat's diet must consist of protein.

Protein is broken down into amino acids. When your cat's body has what it requires for all of its essential needs, it uses excess protein for energy.

Your cat also requires fat for energy but this should not be given to them in excessive amounts. Cats can also utilize carbohydrates although they don't need carbohydrates in their diet.

All cats need to have a diet that  give them essential amino acids to rebuild muscle, support heart health and for other purposes.
