Castor oil is produced using the castor bean. The plant that produces
this bean thrives in Jamaica, India and other parts of the world that
have warm weather for most of the year.
In Jamaica, castor oil has traditionally been used for healthy hair. It is said to have the following benefits:
1. Improves hair thickness
2. Helps hair to grow longer and prevents breakage
3. Makes hair shiny
4. Helps hair to grow faster
I
have heard of people in several countries using castor oil on their
eyebrows, in order to make them grow evenly. People with naturally thin
eyebrows, or with an irregular growth pattern, sometimes use an eyebrow
pencil to darken the brows.
Women have also used this oil to get thicker eyelashes. Be careful if you decide to try this. Some people find the oil to be irritating, while some doctors have actually recommended castor oil and flax as a treatment for dry eyes.
You may use castor oil as a hair dressing
to experience the benefits. You may also use it in scalp massages. It
is a very thick and potent oil so you don’t need to use a lot. Just a
little on your fingertips will be enough if you have shoulder length
hair.
You may also dilute castor oil by blending it with coconut
oil or other oils that are good for the hair and scalp, such as
camellia. Use this oil cautiously if you have very light hair, since it
will tend to darken it a bit.
